The 1999 Cynosure Screenwriting Awards

In 1999, 247 scripts were received in total: 173 entries in the female protagonist category and 74 entries in the minority protagonist category. Approximately 20 percent of all entries in both categories progressed to the quarter finals. Then, from those quarter finalists, 3 scripts in each category were selected as semi-finalists. Although final judging amongst the three semi-finalists was extremely close, one script in each category was selected as winning finalist, and they are:

Female Protagonist

Donor 416, by Jennifer Houston

and

Minority Protagonist

Losers, by Kimberly K. Reid

Congratulations to our winners, and thank you to everyone for your interest and participation.  The judging process was  both difficult and exhilarating; there were many great screenplays worthy of consideration.  We wish to express our great pleasure that so many of you are are writing such wonderful, complex and quality screen roles for both women and minorities.

The contest has gotten off to a tremendous start in its very first year and we  have all of you to thank for its success.  We are also pleased to announce that next year, in 2000, the prize monies will be increased by $500 each, awarding $1500 to each of the two finalists.
