The 2000 Cynosure Screenwriting Awards

In 2000, 254 scripts were received in total. 194 of those were entered in the Female Protagonist category and 60 of those were entered in the Minority Protagonist category. From these, 35 scripts proceeded to the quarter-finals (23 in the Female Protagonist category and 12 in the Minority Protagonist category). Then, from those quarter-finalists, 9 were selected as semi-finalists (4 in the Female Protagonist category and 5 in the Minority Protagonist category). A complete list of the quarter and semi-finalists is posted at the bottom.

Although final judging amongst the semi-finalists was very close, one script in each category was selected as a winning finalist, and those are:

Female Protagonist

Night Blooming Jasmine, by Lisanne Sartor

and

Minority Protagonist

The Pawn, by Paula Neiman

Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to everyone for your interest and participation. The judging process was both difficult and exhilarating; there were many great screenplays worthy of consideration. We are pleased and encouraged that so many of you are writing such inspiring, ground-breaking and dynamic screen roles for women and minorities. We are also happy to announce that next year, in 2001, the prize monies will be increased by $500 each, awarding $2000 to each of the two finalists.
